8.10 Workshop: Drafts in Dialogue: Writing, Ideas, and Feedback Across Subfields
Thu, Oct 08, 2026 · 3:30–5:00 PM

Planning scholarship doesn’t stay disciplinarily siloed — housing, climate, transportation, health, design, and many other topics and disciplines collide with and influence each other. That’s part of what makes the field generative, but it also means our writing has to work for readers well outside our own corner of it.

This workshop is a space to test that. Submit a piece of your writing-in-progress and answer a few short questions about your background, and we’ll pair you with someone from as different a disciplinary background as possible for a focused, supportive conversation.

  1. 1

    Submit your draft

Share a written work—a chapter, prospectus, annotated outline, abstract, or whatever else you have (20 pages or fewer)—and tell us a bit about your background.

  2. Not ready to share your writing before Pittsburgh? We’ll still have opportunities to put your work in conversation during our workshop! Come and bring your writing to the session on Thurs, Oct 8 from 3:30–5:00 PM.

  3. 2

    We'll match you up

After the submission window closes, we’ll match participants and share the drafts so you can read them before the session.

  4. 3

    Share your thoughts in Pittsburgh

Don’t worry about sharing comments beforehand. We’ll do that in Pittsburgh during our workshop on Thurs, Oct 8 from 3:30–5:00 PM.

Comma-separated keywords, e.g. urban planning, GIS, housing policy

PDF or Word document, ideally 20 pages or fewer, up to 25MB
